  • Still not convinced you need to make the jump from your iPhone 3GS to the Google Nexus One? Google and HTC (manufacturers of the device) have released a new video in their Nexus One video series, which shows some serious top notch stress testing for the device.

In this new video HTC shows off the manufacturing process for the Google Nexus One, then they show a very cool bend test that puts more stress on the device that you’ll probably ever manage.

Watch the video below to see the unit dropped, bent, poked at and slammed with no consequences we could notice to the device.

  • In this video, we cover the built-in applications of the Google Nexus One. We go over the basic applications like Contacts and Calendar, but also dive a bit into the 3D photo gallery, the voice recognition capabilities, and more.

As mentioned in the video, there seems to be no quick way to dial a contact using the number pad (as you can do in Windows Mobile), but there are some alternatives. For example, you can place shortcuts to people you dial often on one of the homescreens. Also, you can fill up your Favorites screen within the Contacts application. Finally, you can use the device’s search button to call up a keyboard that allows you to quickly find someone in your list.

  • During the Consumer Electronics Show, I took a bunch of pictures with the Google Nexus One handset and it performed admirably. The flash was ideal in very low light setting although after a few meters away from your subject, the value decreases quickly. But I’m already getting questions about the video capability of the device. I was going to shoot a comparison between the iPhone 3GS and the Nexus One, but my friends at NewTeeVee beat me to the punch. There you can see two videos to compare.

Their verdict? The Nexus One offers better clarity, but the iPhone 3GS handles the white balance better. I’m not surprised by the video quality, though — the Nexus One captures 720 x 480 up to 20 fps while the iPhone 3GS grabs 640 x 480 up to 30 fps. For fast-moving action, the iPhone may trump the Nexus One. But for basic scenery with little to no movement — quite common for my cats, as you’ll see — the Nexus One offers a solid experience. And just like the iPhone, I was able to upload the file directly to YouTube, although I was cautioned that “large” files can only be sent over Wi-Fi.

  • Cyanogen has launched a new image for the Google Nexus One phone that opens it up to have a number of new applications installed such as tethering.

The sub title of the post suggests that this is just the start of a lot more to come as it says “something to play with for now…”.

To get the new image on to the Nexus One it requires that you root your N1 (and warns you to not follow through if you are worried at a slim chance of bricking your phone). Once rooted you then just follow some simple instructions to download and install the image on the N1.

  • Google’s Nexus One is going to be available in the next couple of weeks on Vodafone in the UK and we’ve already managed to have a play with the Android 2.1 touting handset.

The new phone, which is solid and well built brings with it a number of new features over and above the previous Android flagship the Motorola Droid/Milestone.

Thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset the menu interface was zippy and fast, however it’s also worth pointing out that while made by HTC it doesn’t and won’t feature the company’s Sense UI.
