Anyone in the market for a new phone case? You might want to sign-up for Google Offers if the answer is yes. Today’s offer is essentially a 52 percent discount towards any purchase made at Case-Mate.com, one of the better mobile phone case sellers that we’ve come across. There’s currently a Google Offer, set to expire on February 4, 2012, that gives $25 credit towards any purchase made at Case-Mate.com. Interested buyers would only have to pay $12 to get the credit, so you’re doubling your buying power and getting free shipping in the process. This deal requires membership with Google Offers (free and US only), and would have to be redeemed by July 28, 2012. Case-Mate.com has its largest selection mostly in iPhone cases, but the company has been introducing limited case options for Android phones and tablets. Among the support devices from HTC are the Rezound, Sensation, Evo Design, Amaze, Rhyme, Inspire, and Thunderbolt. Motorola has the Droid 3 and Droid RAZR, Samsung has the Galaxy S II (all variants), and Galaxy Nexus. There are also cases for the Amazon Kindle Fire, HTC Flyer, Motorola Xoom, and Samsung Galaxy Tab. Most cases at the site cost about $25, so the Google Offer should see you covered. There’s also a custom case creator that uses personal photos or art licensed to Case-Mate that costs more, but I’m not sure if this deal supports those as well. (The Case-Mate website has been failing frequently for me all morning.) I recommend the Barely There series of cases because they are thinner and still protect the phone from scratches and low-impact falls. Get more information on deal requirements at Google Offers

Bluetooth and app-supported watches are a big trend here at CES, with little guys like IM Watch and MIMM taking on the big boys in Motorola and Sony. The Sony Smart Watch, announced at CES, hopes that a combination of function and style will make the Android accessory stand out. The Smart Watch is a Bluetooth device that links with an Android phone to perform certain functions. It’s a follow-up to the Sony Ericsson Live View, only this version is a little more stylish and comes with fashionable bands. The standard band is black, but five more colors are sold separately and are interchangeable to go better with what you’re wearing or what you prefer. Phones link with the Smart Watch and send notifications about missed calls, incoming texts, Twitter updates, and the local weather. There are apps made specifically to work with the watch, including third party developers. So someone who jogs can load Endomondo and track stats on their workout. Oh, and it tells you the time, obviously. I like the look of the Smart Watch – standard black, I’m too shy to wear the flashier colors – and look forward to testing one out long-term. Sony says that the device is compatible with “most Android phones,” including those made by other manufacturers. Here’s a demo from a Sony rep.

You know how everyone loves taking panoramic shots with their mobile devices? Well, how’d you like to upgrade those snapshots to moving photos and record panoramic video with your Android phone? You will be able to soon with the Kogeto Iconic. Previously available only for the iPhone as Dot, Kogeto has announced that it is bringing the Kickstarter-originating device to Android. Using an attachment mounted near the camera lens and a companion app that records the video, the Iconic can create a video file that takes 360 degrees of viewing and puts them together for a format viewable on mobile devices or computers. The results can capture a lot more than one can with a standard camera. Once video is recorded, iConic lets users do other things like swipe on screen to focus on different areas, or share the video of their preferred social network. There’s even a social feature made for users who want to show off their video among other users. An app named Lookr will soon debut on the Android Market that enables those users to share with one another. You can visit Kogeto.com/dotspots to see examples of panoramic videos shot with the iPhone version. Expect to see the Galaxy Nexus to get IConic in February, with other phone models likely to follow. The device will cost $79 when it hits stores.

Android’s poor battery life is a common complaint from heavy users and critics alike. I even ran into a tech friend who made the shift to Windows Phone 7 of all things – shudder – and that was a major factor in his decision. But fear not, Android fans, because PowerBag has solved the problem. Well, not directly, but it can be incredibly useful for the tech-savvy and gadget-happy traveler. PowerBag is a company that develops specialized backpacks and messenger bags that have a battery built into the accessory. It houses multiple ports that can then charge your phone or tablet while resting in the bag, allowing you to use your tech without fear that the Battery Trolls will secretly suck out all the juice and leave you powerless while on the go. PowerBag has a removable, rechargeable battery that ranges from 3,000 mAh to 9,000 mAh depending on the model selected. It also has a range of options that are all appealing. I’ve been lugging around a giant military bag to house my gadgets that, while large enough to hold my stuff and take a beating, doesn’t offer the same level of convenience. Powerbag counters with several options that offer more style and function. The Urban Collection supports pockets specifically designed to house tablets, cell phones, and MP3 players. It’s available as one of two backpacks or a messenger bag. The Executive Collection has backpacks, messenger bags, cases, and rolling bags that are geared for frequent travelers looking to move quickly through TSA and need a larger battery. The F?l Collection is the premium and fashion-forward branch available as a backpack, sling, messenger, or wheeled briefcase. The bags start at $139.99 and are sold at Best Buy, OfficeMax, QVC, F.Y.E., WirelessZone, Amazon.com, select college and airport stores, and at www.myPowerbag.com .

Virtual keyboards have come a long way. Far enough to be so powerful that you don’t really need a physical keyboard. But don’t be surprised if there comes a time when tapping relentlessly on screen and making mistakes or moving slower than your typical pace is no longer good enough. For those occasions, it wouldn’t hurt to have a physical keyboard to go along with your Android tablet. The Toshiba Wireless Keyboard – Android Optimized is a device to have for those times that you want the benefits of physical keys to press, increasing speed and accuracy in the process. As the name implies, this a tablet-friendly Bluetooth keyboard built specifically with Android in mind (USB cable also available). Optimization for Honeycomb (3.0 or higher) means that this device isn’t simply a Bluetooth keyboard that connects to your tablet; it has a set of “Hotkeys” tailor-made for Android. There are buttons for accessing back, home, menu, or search, so common functions don’t require actually reaching over to touch the tablet. You can also control audio levels and playback settings, get shortcuts for email, and jump directly to the calendar. The TWK-AO, available for $69.99, adds a jolt of productivity to anyone with an Android tablet. Androinica.com and Toshiba USA are teaming up to give a free keyboard to one lucky reader – consider it a late holiday present. The rules for entering are very simple Follow both @androinica and @ToshibaUSA on Twitter Send BOTH handles a tweet with the tag #AndroidHoliday. For example: “Happy #AndroidHoliday from @androinica and @toshibaUSA, who are giving away a keyboard optimized for Android tablets” Limit yourself to ONE entry PER DAY. The contest runs from now until December 26th, 2011. Open to all legal residents of the United States Good luck! Comments Comments by Toshiba keyboard makes typing much easier on Android.
I like to drive and travel quite a bit since Indianapolis is in the middle of quite a few Midwestern cities, and since I’m not from around here, I don’t know where I’m going half the time. So I am sincerely thankful for Google Maps and Navigation, but it became increasingly annoying to pick my phone up to look at the map while dodging traffic and finding my destination. Finally, I broke down and bought a Cobra Mini-Mount. A few days later I bought my girlfriend one, and now it’s on all of my family members’ Christmas lists. The Cobra Mini-Mount doesn’t have a striking feature or really any advanced design that sets it apart, but, to be blunt, it simply works perfectly. It uses suction and a sticky grip on bottom to hold the mount in place while the arm of the device has a bottom ledge and stickiness to hold your phone in place. It also has an adjustable dial to hold your desired position for the mount in place so if you’re thinking it’s turning a lot whenever you hit a bump, it’s probably because this isn’t tightened enough. I’ve only tried a handful of docks and most of those were aimed at a specific device. Being a universal device, the Cobra mount is designed to accommodate all shapes and sizes, and so it also has the perception of not necessarily being perfect for any device. I’m here to set that record straight. I’ve tried a couple different devices, and all of them are held beautifully. I’m not going to admit to my “take-a-turn-as-fast-as-possible” driving attitude, but let’s just say under “rigorous” testing none of my phones flew out of the mount. The Cobra mount does need a little upkeep though. With a simple glass cleaner (my glass wipes in this case work great), you have to wipe down the sticky surface to keep it holding well. I let mine get about a weeks worth of fuzz and hair on it, and it was noticeably less sticky. Before I cleaned it, I turned the mount sideways to watch a video, and the RAZR I had attached fell because I had it charging and the cord tugged at it. You still need to be careful with your devices, but it took quite a bit to get the admittedly unusually shaped RAZR to fall. The Cobra Car mount doesn’t seem highly touted, and I had a hard time tracking it down until Amazon finally started selling it. So you can find it on Amazon or at Accessory Highway for $19.95 and $24.95 respectively.
Inspired by Japanese style, tokidoki is known for clothing and accessories with bright style and bold design. That design has trickled into the Android world thanks to the MetroPCS Huawei M835 Sanctioned by tokidoki , a special edition phone co-created by the lifestyle brand. The tokidoki edition Huawei M835 features two back covers that show eye-catching art to go along with the white front trim and cyan blue accents. A charm is also included to bring the tokidoki feel to the M835, a budget smartphone available on MetroPCS. The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Android 2.2, and a bunch of added content. The tokidoki influence also includes live wallpapers, pictures, ringtones, and a photo app created especially for this phone. Now for the fun part. While the tokidoki M835 is available now for $79 , you don’t have to reach for your wallet just yet. The good folks at SA Studios are giving free phones to three Androinica.com readers. Here’s how to enter: Follow both @Androinica and @MetroPCS on Twitter Make a tweet mentioning both accounts with the hashtag #toki4metro Only one entry per person is necessary. We will select winners at random on November 29, 2011. The three selected winners will receive a free Huawei M835 Sanctioned by tokidoki. MetroPCS service is not included in the contest and must be obtained separately. Good luck!
Cases often present a strange trade-off between form and function. Either the case is protective and ridiculously bulky or it is stylish and slim but short on absorption power. The Gumdrop Drop Tech Series is the latest accessory that tries to be protective and pretty at the same time. Is it successful on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? The Drop Tech Series (DTS) case is a little too thick to be considered slim. It’s still small enough to not earn the “ridiculously bulky” tag, but noticeably bigger thanks to the weight that it adds to the normally featherweight Galaxy Tab 10.1. However, unlike the Toshiba Thrive – which is abnormally large – the Gumdrop-coated Tab 10.1 actually uses that bulk to keep the device safe. The Gumdrop DTS is actually a three-part case designed for “high-density” shock absorption. A hard polcycarbonate frame protects the front, and a silicone skin protects the back and sides. An optional screen protector frame is also included, but considering that the Tab 10.1 has Corning Gorilla Glass that can stand up to practically any real-life adversity, that seems rather unnecessary. The only positive reason I can see for keeping the screen protector is in case a user fears spilling coffee or water in the morning. The silicone case is necessary and a reassuring feature. During my informal drop tests from just under waist length, the case did an excellent job of absorbing the impact of the fall. The silicone has a number of pads elevated to a tip, so the shock of hitting the ground is practically uneventful. And while these earn the DTS praise for security, it also lead to minor points deductions for not being a smooth and comfortable surface. One-handed operation in portrait is fine because the fingers rest between the ridges, but holding with two hands in landscape – important for gaming – is slightly awkward. People who are careful and avoid dropping their devices don’t really need the Gumdrop DTS. But people who are less-than-careful and want an added bit of protection for that Android tablet that cost several hundred dollars are the target market. The DTS does an excellent job of keeping a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or ASUS Eeepad Transformer in tact after being dropped, so visit Gumdrop Cases if you have $49.95 to spend.
Sphero – the rolling, racing, turning, twirling robotic ball that is powered by Android and features games – is available for pre-order. First seen at tech shows throughout the year, Sphero recently started accepting pre-orders in the United States. Demand for the ball has proven too high to guarantee getting a Sphero in 2011, but you may want to order one now for early next year. “Part robot, part ball,” Sphero is nifty little ball that can be remote-controlled with an Android device. Using on-screen controls and the accelerometer, the device can move towards any of 360-degree angles. It’s basically an Orbotix Smart Robot with a polycarbonate shell wrapped around the ball so it can withstand crashing into walls, falling off surfaces, or going into water. Controls are established through Bluetooth, it charges in two hours, and Sphero has battery life of one hour if you continuously keep the device running at its full speed of 2 miles per hour (pace yourself to get longer life.) Sphero is a $129.99 toy that’s fun to play based on the in-person demo’s I’ve had of the product. The ball will be more appealing thanks to corresponding games that people will be able to download from the Android Market. For instance, Sphero Golf responds to the phone being held as a virtual putter, then moves into a hole if the right amount of force and accuracy is placed on the swing. Users can also plot an automated pattern for Sphero to drive with Sphero Blox, trace a path with Draw n’ Drive, or interact with other users on social networks and leaderboards with the official Sphero app. Check out this demo video and head to GoSphero.com to place an order for $129.99. The ball sadly won’t make it to you this holiday season, so users will have to put in their bids for a “likely 2012″ order. International users can also sign-up to be notified.
One of my favorite memories of Mobile World Congress 2011 was the Android Zone that featured plenty of demos and a cool Android experience. Of all those attractions, the Androidify Me booth that allowed users to create their own Android mascot and then print it as a sticker was the most intriguing. Not everyone could make it MWC, and plenty of people who love the Androidify app wish they could put their personal Bugdroid on a sticker for their laptop or other surface. Sound like you? Then maybe you ought to slide a few bucks to this Kickstarter project. Aleksandr Peredereyev got the idea that all those cool avatars people have been creating in Androidify would look good as stickers, but he needs new equipment to make that happen. But if enough money is pledged to reach the $4,550 goal, he’ll be able to print the just under 4-inch stickers. So how does it work? Like all Kickstarter projects, you pledge a certain amount of money and you are not charged unless the project is successfully-funded. If the $4,550 goal isn’t reached, your PayPal or credit card remains untouched. However, if the goal is reached, you are entitled to whatever prize tier you pledge. If all you want is the sticker, pledge $5 and you’ll receive it if the project is funded. But if you’re willing to through in a few more dollars, you can get extra decals, posters, t-shirts, and keychains. Visit the Kickstarter page and Androidifyme.com for information.
Are you someone who listens to music on a mobile device but think that the latest Kings of Leon album isn’t done justice through your paltry phone speakers? Well, maybe you should add a little more oomph with the Logitech Mini Boombox. Announced today at a $99.99 price point, the Logitech Mini Boombox is a battery-powered (USB and power outlet also available) speakerbox that can stream your music at a higher level. The speaker uses Bluetooth audio to wirelessly pair devices and then play music, meaning you can stream your Google Music, Grooveshark, Pandora, Spotify, or locally-stored music easily. There’s also a 3.5mm audio jack in case you want a direct connection. And should you get the urge to reach out and touch someone between songs, the Mini Boombox also supports Bluetooth HFP 1.5 for hands-free voice calls. On device controls, 10 hours of battery life, and a light size make this a portable accessory. Logitech claims that users will get better sound from this speaker because a “specifically designed acoustic chamber delivers great sound with enhanced bass.” Users can validate those claims for themselves by placing a $99 pre-order at Logitech.com. The device comes in all black or black with red accents, but no delivery date has been shared.
We’ve already seen a fairly wide selection of Android collectibles, such as this set of vinyl figures that would make any Android enthusiast’s workspace a bit more fun. There are 12 unique designs, all created by Andrew Bell – an artist based in New York who’s clearly a fan of Google’s OS. The collectibles are released in an endeavor called DYZplastic together with some of Bell’s friends at Google. DYZplastic has also made these limited edition vampire bad boys , and we’ve even seen Android themed pillows . But I don’t think any of the Android figures have walked around so far – until now. Most people have rocked a wind-up robot, animal, or action figure of sorts sometime during their childhood. Now you can get nostalgic and express your affection for Android at the same time. For $4, you get a set of 3 walking, wind-up Androids at DealExtreme . It sounds like a fair deal to me. Is anyone getting a set? Via [ Phandroid ]

Viper SmartStart is an automotive accessory that can remotely control your car. Using an Android app and a piece of hardware, users can start their car from inside the house, open the trunk, lock the doors, or activate an alarm system. If you’re intrigued by those features, you’ll also be happy to know that Viper has dropped the price down to only $199 for the self-installed system of Viper Smart Start 2.0. “We optimized the design and engineered costs out to put Viper SmartStart within reach of as many customers as possible,” said Mike Simmons, executive VP of Directed Electronics.
